Sound Healing
What is Sound healing?
Sound Healing, also known as Sound Therapy, is the therapeutic application of sound frequencies and vibrations to the body/mind of a person with the intention of bringing them into a state of harmony and health.
Sound healing is usually a private session using musical instruments played on or around the body.
What is a sound bath?
In this group setting experience, instruments are played in a therapeutic manner in order to relax the body, calm the mind, and ignite inner awareness. Participants are laying down for the experience with their eyes closed.
It is called a Sound Bath because it feels like the sounds are washing over you.
Instruments used may include, but are not limited to : quartz crystal singing bowls, Himalayan bowls, gongs, drums, shakers, chimes, bells, tingshas, and voice.
What should i bring to a sound bath?
Please bring anything that will support you in laying down for the duration of the session.
Items may include a yoga mat, pillow (for head and under your knees if needed), eye mask, and blanket.
Dressing comfortably will also support you in becoming more relaxed during the session.
Participants often feel thirsty after a sound bath session, so feel free to bring water.
What can sound therapy help with?
Sound therapy can help you clear energetic blockages and thus facilitate healing on a physical and mental level. Some of the benefits of sound therapy include:
lower stress levels
fewer mood swings
lower blood pressure
improved sleep
reduce anxiety
Reiki
How Does Reiki Help?
On a basic physical level, Reiki helps your nervous system relax and get into rest-and-digest mode. But Reiki also encourages your natural healing response by gently restoring balance to your entire system—mind, body, and spirit. But what does that really mean? Let me give you some examples:
If you’re feeling stuck or confused, you might gain more clarity, flow, and motivation. If you’re anxious and tense, you might begin to feel more calm and relaxed. If you’re tired and drained, you might feel more energetic or refreshed. If you have pain, it might begin to lessen or even disappear. If you’re having a conflict with someone, you might find that it’s easier to let go of anger and empathize with them.
Note that I used the word might. These are just examples, and Reiki practitioners cannot guarantee any outcomes. We’re trained to help facilitate your healing and hold space for you. All you have to do is show up and be open to it—it’s that simple.
Because our Reiki experiences are based on what we as individuals need at the time, they can be completely different or similar to those of other people. You may even find that your own experience differs from session to session. Usually, though, you’ll leave with a better sense of well being.
What can I expect during an in-person Reiki/Sound session?
Although Reiki sessions are similar in nature, each practitioner has their own style. Here’s what you can expect in a private session with me: New clients will fill out a simple intake form. We’ll take a few minutes after you arrive to go over some important info from that form, including any concerns you may have, special needs or preferences, and whether or not you’re okay with light touches during the session. It will be a shorter discussion if you’re a returning client. Next, you’ll lie fully clothed on your back on a massage table and, if you’re okay with it, I’ll place a small pillow over your eyes. You can also sit in a chair and close your eyes if that better suits your needs. When you’re settled and comfy, I’ll begin to place my hands gently on or above your body, starting at your head and working my way down to your feet. I’ll then revisit certain placements as needed. Sound healing instruments will also be used throughout the session to deepen your experience. What you feel during a session can differ for each person, but generally, my clients feel a deep sense of relaxation and sometimes fall asleep or into a dreamlike state. If you need anything during a session then you can let me know at any time. This is your session, and I want you to be as comfortable as possible. When the session is over, we’ll discuss how you feel and what you experienced, if you choose to discuss it. I’ll also answer any questions that come up as a result of the session. My clients leave feeling much better than when they came in and sleep really well that night.
Is Reiki safe?
Yes, it’s safe. There are no medical side effects. Reiki is not invasive, and it’s practiced with light touch or no touch at all.
Are there any scientific experiments that demonstrate reiki works?
Reiki is not a science, a conventional medical treatment, or a substitute for the care of a doctor or therapist. There are some medical studies on the effects of Reiki. Additonal research can be found at the Center for Reiki Research. This evidence is enough for some of the most prominent medical centers and hospitals to offer Reiki.
Can I learn how to practice Reiki?
Yes! Anyone can learn to do it for themselves and others through a qualified Reiki teacher. I encourage you to do your research and go with your intuition in your search for a teacher. If you’re interested in learning Reiki, I would love to connect with you so you can decide if we’re a good fit. Children can also learn Reiki as well!
